Watching movies...

Our tutorials are currently spent watching movies brought by Amelia and Alicia...how nice to spend your class doing such interesting activities...we are not burdened with reading or learning, we just need to watch movies about teacher...

some movies that we watched that I haven't commented on are:
  • Lean On Me
  • Finding Forrester
  • CHALK
  • Passion
all the movies are thoughtfully done...we were inspired by it and we can learn from it...
Like Dr Jaya said, good teachers only exist in movies...I would LOVE to prove him wrong and hopefully one day, I can be a good teacher also...

If only Malaysia has some good movies about teachers, I'll be one happy person...

Fairytales...

Dont we all wish we were in fairytales...living happily with others by our side...Getting whatever we want...
It seems like every girls wish to live in a fairytales...Being with Prince charming and living happily ever after...getting all the beautiful clothes and expensive jewelery are every girls' dream...

but what girls dont realize is how much a fairytale deceives them into believing that all girls are needy, weak and a pushover...

taking Rapunzel for example, she is weak and only hopes for Prince charming to come and save her...it shows that a girl needs a boy or a girl cannot survive the world...

and taking into considerations how girls in fairytales are always beautiful and skinny, shows that is what we need to be happy...for a man to take notice and eventually be happy ever after...ugly women are portrayed by witches, and evil stepmom which is irrelevant to evryone...cant a girl with not so pretty face be nice???

bringing this inappropriateness into considerations, I decided to make my research paper entitled 'Women' treatment in fairytales'...I will research on the treatment that women received in fairytales and the significance of it for students live...

well, now, I only need to find more texts to be used and more reading to be done....

You will never get a second chance in life

I believe it is true...in life, if you make a mistake you will never get a second chance...In fact sometimes, you dont even deserve a second chance...That is why I believe you should always keep that principle in mind so that you will think twice before doing anything...

But on the other hand, mistakes are mistakes...we sometimes make mistakes without realizing it...Thus, it is fair for someone who made inescapably mistakes not getting a second chance...dont they deserve to be given a second chance???

however, logically, a mother that abandon her child is not entitled to have a second chance right???she decided to left the baby instead of be responsible to it...but in 'The Merry maid' that particular mother managed to get a second chance...yes, she did not get to take the child away from the adopted family...but she is able to see the child...held the child's hands and also be around that child...

and for that, I got my idea to write on my position paper...the title is 'You will never get a second chance in life'... i am going to argue on this fact...using 'The Merry Maid' as my text...I'll do my best for this topic...

My...Oh...My...Research Paper, Here I Come~~~

Having to meet Dr Husnia aka my supervisor for this subject's research paper, I became extremely nervous as I had no idea what to expect from her...On Friday, the day me and my other friends were supposed to meet Dr Husnia, she suddenly had to attend to something thus cancelling our meeting...At that time, I felt my heart just go 1000 tons lighter as honestly, I was not prepared with my research title just yet...We set up another meeting on Tuesday and all of us brainstormed for ideas...

In doing this paper, I decided to do on a genre of fictions that I love the most which is 'MYSTERY' as in investigation and crime...I think this is the only genre that I can work on with ease of mind...However, I cannot pick a specific part of mystery I wanted to work on...SO, what I prepared in my draft to see Dr Husnia was just a general idea on mystery fictions that I know of...

The time to meet Dr Husnia finally came, and with a fast beating heart, me and my friends entered her office...As expected, my lack of focus on mystery genre proven to be the main issue with her...After being dazed and confused with her constant questioning on what part of mystery fiction I was going to work on, I received a suggestion from her concerning my research paper...She suggested I do on 'Mystery Fiction for Young Adult'...A VERY GOOD suggestion...I get to do what I like the most which is mystery fiction and it has a path to work on...

But, sitting at home, thinking, I cannot get any idea on the suggested title...This is a HUGE problem I supposed...Since I am not well equipped with mystery books for young adult, I became lost again...Now I'm still considering whether I want to work with the suggested title or find another title that I can work on...URGHHHH!!!

Hides in room, scratching head for ideas...STRESS is filling myself up~~~

Writing is not my thing...

Having to write a 200 something words essay seems to sound easy isn't it???NOT in my case though...I was having so many problems in coming out with sentences about the topic given...'ARRANGED MARRIAGE'...Maybe the reason being I have not written any essay for quite a long time...It causes me to have writer's block...
Luckily the task of writing this essay is a group work...So,I can rely on my groupmates to come out with the essay while I pitch in some ideas...However,this has become a good exercise in preparing me to do my research paper...I wont be shocked when I actually do my research paper...

I C.A.N D.O A.N.Y.T.H.I.N.G

Yes, I can...I can be the best if I put enough effort in it...

well, at least I can spell well...not so well like Akeelah in 'Akeelah and The Bee'... that film is awesome...it is inspiring and yet so simple...

a person is able to do anything as long as you accompany it with effort and resistance...try the hardest to make it and you will eventually make it...

and the most important thing is the help we can get from others...it is the essence in life in which we need people to help us...not that we cannot live without others, it is just taht our life will become easier...

I love this movie so much~~

Lets Get Married~~~Yeay~~

All I can say is 'NOT NOW'.....why not now???I don't even have a boyfriend for god sake...So how am I suppose to get married, RIGHT???
Marriage, an overrated word that signifies HAPPINESS, BLISSFUL life together with your spouse...why did I say overrated???Because it simply is overrated...It seems like the best option you can have where you would think you will easily be living with your spouse happily ever after...well~~~
First of all, it is NEVER easy...not only the life in the marriage itself, which I dare not to talk about as I am not yet married but the life before marriage itself...so, I'll focus on the hardship before marriage itself...

Not having a significant others, some of my family members sigh and worry on how am I suppose to get married...I am not getting younger (though I'm still 22) and where will I find my significant others now that I'm almost approaching the end of my studies...So some said that why not resort to browsing for guys in the neighborhood or maybe from close acquaintances... Ok, that is so 'Arrange Marriage'...the topic that me and my course mates discuss on class with Dr.Jaya...
I don't oppose it, YES...but I'm not saying I'll conform to it either...I'll only agree to it if I have atleast some say in choosing the guy...I don't want my life be decided just by others opinions...I need to be sure that the guy is perfectly imperfect and is compatible with me...I don't want a creepy guy as my spouse either...hehehehe...besides, in this modern age, arrange marriage is no longer fix, it is rather giving the options to guys and girls to look around for significant others outside of their networking area...It is not suppose to be forceful in which you are obliged to marry the person you are arranged to...RIGHT???

But hey, if anyone want to arrange 'dates' or 'future-significant-other' to me, I am most welcome to...

I want to be a RON CLARK!!!

Well, Can I??? Not literally be a guy teaching in New York...But rather being an ambitious teacher...I am a FUTURE teacher and most probably going to be called 'TEACHER RAHIMAH' in less than a year...so, I would love to have a drive as much as Ron Clark has...

Ooopss, btw Ron Clark is a character played by Matthew Perry in The Triumph...We were blessed to be able to watch this movie on tutorial the other day...Having watched the movie on TV several times before, I got excited with the fact that this film can be shared with all my course mates because to me, this film is very inspiring to all teachers in the world...

Ron Clark, a real life character of an American teacher teaches us that a teacher must have an extra drive to teach in order to encourage students to study...He not only left his comfort home and school, he also choose to teach at one of the most depressing class in Harlem New York...Seemingly helpless in helping the kids from different races with different social background to be good in school, he defies all odds and succeeds in molding his students to be the best there is...

This movie reminds me of the importance of enthusiasm that I have to have in order to become a teacher...Currently, with all the stress of being Final Year students and the stories of how dreadful it is to be in school by people around me, I somewhat lost the drive to be a teacher...I became scared and somewhat skeptical on my choice to become a teacher...Imagine, me, not yet a teacher yet has almost dry myself with the thoughts of how scary it is to be a teacher...

Now, I got a new resolution...I want to be a 'Ron Clark' kind of teacher...Yes, I can!!!!

Miss Lily Pig~~

Just looking at this picture, I laugh my heart out...This PIG is the creation of my friends and me...Teacher Fiza, Teacher Fila and Teacher Asiah also not forgetting Teacher Ima...it is for the sake of making fable story that Miss Amelia and Miss Alicia ask us to do...
after considering for a while what animal should we use in making our 'modern fables' we decided to use PIG in our story...This is thanks to Teacher Asiah that accuses me and Teacher Fila likes to mention pig in our daily conversation...well, partly IT IS TRUE...hehehehe
doing fables that is modern is a bit challenging at first as fable is originally a traditional literature in which it is used to entertain folks in the older days...but having to come up with a modern one, we tried to look into some of the famous cartoons nowadays that feature animals as their characters...we look at the details in which the setting or the dialogue...by that, we got some ideas on what to do...

next step is deciding on the plot of our story...with known fact that fable is supposedly teaching moral values, we struggle to find important and alarming issues for youngsters nowadays...and there it is...health problem and the urge to be skinny...we believe that this issue is just a serious one and will never escape our youngsters mind...thus we did it in our fable...

And when we finished, we were super happy with the result...whether this fable of ours is good or not, we just pass it to our tutors and just hope that this is a descent modern fable...

and Miss Lily Pig is now no longer frowning like in the picture above, she is beaming with smile and healthy body!!!

a GAME is just a GAME~~

a GAME should be fun and relaxing...as in DROWGAMES...it is FUN and beneficial...but it is funny how this game could turn our TESL class upside down...resource centre of FPP UPM became a fish market on the 29th of July at 2.30 pm...

for the sake of winning some prizes, all of us mostly range from 22 to 26 years old became childlike in our tutorial class...it is funny in a certain way because nobody can imagine these future teachers get so hype up with a simple mind game like DROWGAMES...but hey, when it comes to prizes, everyone become competitive freaks right???

well, I lost in my first round, not because of anything but because of luck...This game really needs luck like I said before, so when I lost to Jeremy, I consider it his luck...No heart feeling attached...besides, when I lost early, I can go home early...YEAY~~~

Okay, enough with this game (for me only as I know there are still some who are addicted to this game)... I want to go study now... (LIE)

me=woman=feminist???

honestly, I always questions myself whether I'm a feminist or not...living in this modern age, with education that leads me to the world of freedom even though I'm a woman maks me wonder am I a feminist???What mindset do I have when it comes to women issues...Will I always be a feminist all the way and rejects women' oppression???And all this time, I never got the answer...

because sometimes, I think that some of the feminists in this world are too strong and hard on men and the treatment they got...It sometimes stops them from enjoying life and their mindset is too set on women' power...But on the other hand, feminists' actions enable us women to live in this comfortable live today...so I cant be the one to talk bad about the feminists...

And when I watched 'Monalisa's Smile' on class with my classmates, made me see a feminist living at times where women is just another objesct and these women succumb to that role...Katherine Ann Willis played by Julia Roberts, to me is a feminist..and seeing her in the movie, I can see that she is a free woman that lives her life to the fullest and hopes other girls aka her students to live a life like her...I was so annoyed at first watching this movie because the students are so INTELLIGENTLY STUPID~~~they read books and memorize them page to page...they also accedes to their role as women in which they have to get married and be a care-taker in order to actually become a woman...THIS IS SUPER FRUSTRATING!!!

But as you can expect from a movie, Katherine is able to change these students' mindset to the better and thus they are more free to live their lives...

However, there is a twist in this movie that also relates to my confusion whether I'm a feminist or not...Joan Brandwyn played by Julia Stiles, she really opens my mind about this issue...Being a free woman is being whoever you want to be and not be scared about it...YES, we might say that being married in early age is like a confinement to your life...But she did it without any pressure and did it out of her desire...As long as she is happy about it, and the man is right for her, she does not think of the marriage as a NEED in order to become a woman, instead that is her own CHOICE!!!

so the important things in life is when you are able to CHOOSE...a feminist or not, it is just a label...your attitude and how you treat your life is the one that decide how you live your life...

Lets Play~~

Games~~~Wouldn't anyone be excited to play games...I know I would...So when this course tutor said that we are going to play a game that Dr.Jaya invented, me and my classmates were like SUPER EXCITED!!!spending the time in class just playing made us cringe with excitement~~~my prediction that this class will not be the usual 'listen-to-lecture-read-your-books-do-well-in-exam' totally hit a home run...

the Game that we played is called 'DROWGAMES' invented by Dr.Jaya itself...the game is 'educational' game in which we play by answering questions that are posted, some about modals, grammar and many more...DONT say it is boring because that is not the ONLY element in this game...there is also the element of luck, and time set...so sometimes you cant help but crossing your finger while playing hoping that your opponents' luck is just not on their side...and the price for the winner of this game is quite INTERESTING...too bad I'm not going to get it...T.T

But, it is unanimous with everyone in the whole world that NOTHING is PERFECT~so is this game...Well, the first and the most obvious glitch in this game is the fact that the questions are redundant...the same questions may appear twice in a round of the game...so it became irritating especially when you are excitedly playing the game...another one is the lack of animation in the game...so it became boring when you play it in a longer time...
well, since the game is still new, maybe the glitches can be fixed thus this game can become beneficial and fun in the same time...

so Dr Jaya, 11 thumbs up for inventing this game, and hopefully with all the praise I've given to your game minus the flaws, you can give me an Iphone OR an Ipod...WILL YOU??? =)

Songs that last FOREVER and a FORTNIGHT~~

Can you recall the song that tops the chart 3 weeks ago???What is it???Help me find it out because I totally cannot recall what song that became the hit at that time...With songs that came out like almost every seconds we breathe ( TOTAL EXAGGERATION), how can we keep up with new songs and still get a strong memory of the older songs...it is almost impossible, dont you think???

I believe that is the case for Lady Gaga's Alejandro (click on the right bar for preview)...Yes it will be on almost everyone's music playlist for this month and who knows, it might still be famous for the next month...But one thing for sure, it wont be around for another year...People will have to 'google' them to refresh their mind if they were asked about "Alejandro" next year...

However, by listening to "Toumba" by Saieen Zahoor Ahmed I can assure you the sounds will last forever and it will not be an old story even in the year 2070...YES, it is not as famous as "Alejandro", but you can be sure that people around the world will be able to enjoy this song and just get smitten by the melody of the song...PUTTING ASIDE the fact that this song is heavy and leaning towards ISLAM, everybody regardless of of their religion should be able to appreciate this song...It is like a chant that is able to sooth your soul and just clear your mind...YES, we cant understand the lyric unless we speaks Urdu, but honestly, just the melody and the singer's voice is ENOUGH for us to appreciate...

so now people, clear your mind, relax your body and just listen to this song...Put you volume up and play it on the top volume...Get pass the judgmental thoughts and just enjoy BOTH "Alejandro" and "Toumba"...

Howdy~~~

The minute I open my eyes on 12th July 2010, it dawned to me, the fact that I'm a final year student of TESL really shocked me...ahhh how I long for the serene and conflict-LESS life being a junior...but I guess those moments are long gone~~~

anyway...entering this new era of super-senior, it became known to me that almost all the subjects I'm getting my hands on this semester are requiring me to do some PROJECT works...and the most apparent subject of that matter is EDU 3234...

now now...Lets take a deep breath and just face this subject one step in a time...Okay???Dr Jaya surely had his way in teaching us so that instead of just doing bunch of works, we will get to enjoy the class AND do bunch of works...

now I just have to blog about all things we've learnt in Dr.Jaya's class~~~n do leave some thoughts for me okay...
